  • Cool

Cool. Meanwhile Hangouts continues to languish with virtually no user facing changes or improvements.

Why do you hate Hangouts so much, Google? It is your baby, after all.

    • yeah right

I think they are saving a lot of hangouts updates for I/O… i think they are going to try to sell it as a platform kind of like Messenger now is for facebook.

      • Cool

I sure hope so. I don’t hate Hangouts or anything (been using it on all of my devices since I got my Nexus 5 in early November 2013).

I just wish it looked as nice as Messenger does and that it got a steady stream of functionality improvements. I’ll continue to use it for chatting, but in the meantime I’m going to give Messenger a whirl for texting purposes.

      • Dyno

I hope this isn’t the case. The purpose and functionality of Hangouts is convoluted enough as it it. You’ve got a social media chat client, IM, and SMS all rolled into one and it doesn’t do a single one of those things remotely well. Oh yeah, and it also has an add-on Dialer app. And let’s not forget the half baked Google Voice integration. And it still comes nowhere near comparing to iMessage.

And none of this even takes into account that the UI is complete and utter shit. How come a conversation opens to some random point when I open the app? Why don’t I get notifications for half the new messages I get? Messaging is the core function of a smartphone OS and for some reason Google has no interest in making it not suck

        • Cool

          Yes. This man gets it.

Hangouts is definitely a buggy mess. Half the time my contacts pictures don’t show up correctly in the notifications or in the thread.

    What’s new? Bug fixes?

    • Adrian Vovk

Quick reply from notification added. You can reply without leaving the current app you’re in

    • Cool

That’s it. I’m done with Hangouts for texting.

This was the nail in the coffin feature. I’ll be glad to continue using it for chat, video, audio, etc, and I’ll go back for texting, too, if they update it to look more Material, but, for now, messenger here I come.

    • Dyno
    • That is exalty what i want into Hangout.

  • sobieckaszmata

Cool feature, but Google, why it doesn’t work in horizontal view?!

  • Marlon “Virus” Jones

How do you send the stickers?

  • Αχι Κ.

Why they keep on refusing to support strip unicode for other languages?
