Changelog

Every update is meant to make Echo a little better from every corner. Not everything here will be for you, but there's something in this release for most people: smarter sound tuning, a cleaner look, and a lot of small fixes that make everyday listening smoother. Here's what's new.

Highlights

• Block artists and hide their songs across Home, Search, and Queue.
• Find the best equalizer profile for your headphones or earbuds by searching the AutoEq database in the Advanced Equalizer.
• Clear upcoming recommendations from the queue, with confirmation and undo.
• Animated Canvas artwork and a redesigned settings panel in Ambient Mode.

New Features

Content and Library

• Blocked Artists: Block artists from their profile. Their songs are filtered out of the Home feed, Search, and Queue.
• Blocked Artists management: New screen in Content Settings, styled with Material 3 grouped lists.
• Local folder scanning: Added Include and Exclude modes to the local song scan, selectable in the scan sheet (#490).

Equalizer

• AutoEq integration: Search the AutoEq database by headphone or earbud model directly from the Advanced Equalizer tab, and apply a profile tuned for your device.
• Automatic mapping: The profile's graphic EQ curve is converted to the app's 10-band format.
• Automatic activation: Equalizer processing is enabled when an AutoEq profile is applied.

Player

• Clear Queue: Remove upcoming recommendations from the queue. The action goes through a confirmation and undo flow (#493).
• Wavy play/pause toggle: New Appearance setting to switch the wavy play/pause button to a standard circle. Applies to the main player and mini-player.
• Explicit badge tint: The explicit (E) badge now uses the same dynamic tint as the artist name, so it stays visible against album art.

Ambient Mode

• Canvas artwork: Animated Canvas artwork is now supported in Ambient Mode (#461, #462).
• Live settings panel: Adjust lyrics font size, animation, and spacing without leaving Ambient Mode.
• Hide album art: New option to centre lyrics by hiding the album art.
• Simplified controls: The Back and Settings buttons are replaced by a single Material 3 dropdown menu.

Listening Summary

• Vibe Summary: A dynamic vibe is now generated from your listening history.
• Improved genre detection: Broader keyword matching for Rock, Pop, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Classical, and more.
• Smarter fallback: Uncategorised music now falls back to "Diverse" instead of overriding a recognised genre with "Mixed / Unknown".

AI

• Requesty provider: Requesty is now available as an AI provider (#448).
• Clearable API keys: API key fields can now be cleared and saved empty. The key dialog includes an advanced reset option (#492).

Lyrics

• Download with metadata: Lyrics can now be downloaded with metadata, and this is enabled by default.

Improvements

Interface

• Queue screen: Redesigned with Material 3 grouped cards (surfaceVariant, seamless spacing, dynamic corners) to match Settings.
• Menus and dialogs: Equalizer, Advanced (Tempo/Pitch), and Song Info menus now use grouped, rounded surfaceContainerHigh cards. Tempo and Pitch controls are separated, with improved padding and right-aligned controls.
• Settings layout: Listening Summary now has its own distinct block below the Accounts and AI Hub group.
• Ambient options: Removed from Appearance Settings, as they are now available inside Ambient Mode.
• Equalizer sheet: Uses a ModalBottomSheet with skipPartiallyExpanded to resolve nested scroll issues.

Lyrics Translation

• Improved timeout handling and clearer connection error messages.
• Translation status now dismisses automatically.

Local Media

• Local songs no longer require a stream format to appear in the UI.
• Song menu is simplified for local tracks: radio, refetch, and download are hidden, and sharing uses the local audio file.
• Storage permission state refreshes when the app resumes.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed the Home screen carousel auto-scroll timer drifting out of sync with user swipes.
• Fixed the custom font not applying across the app UI after import.
• Fixed the Welcome dialog appearing on every app launch.
• Fixed the playback queue not being restored after an app restart (#489).
• Fixed mini-player metadata visibility under the liquid glass effect (#489).
• Fixed a "Service not registered" crash in MainActivity.onDestroy.
• Fixed local tracks being wiped by accidental or empty scans. Completed folder-filter rejections are now distinguished from empty scans (#490).
• Fixed YouTube API calls being made for local album and artist entities (#490).
• Fixed shuffle order, queue validation, and menu policy in the Clear Queue flow.
• Fixed a streaming OkHttp call not being cancelled with its coroutine in lyrics translation. A call timeout was added.
• Fixed the translation status reset affecting unrelated errors.
• Fixed Ambient Mode layout issues in landscape orientation.
• Fixed a race condition with DataStore initialisation during MainActivity startup.
• Fixed ListItem and Queue padding and background overdraw issues.
• Fixed the stream selection logic to validate that the URL is non-empty before updating the best stream (#489).
• Fixed the ShowMediaInfo list hard-coded background so the bottom sheet surface colour applies correctly.

Internal

• Version bumped to 1.4.1 (versionCode 162).
• Optimised database queries, DataStore caching, and token provider deduplication (#489).
• Applied Spotless and ktlint formatting.
• Removed accidentally committed temporary files.
• Indexed the new Wavy Play/Pause setting in settings search.
